s the saying goes, "one picture is worth a thousand words." The pictures you take while traveling can reflect experiences that you'll want to remember for a lifetime.
A little knowledge about how best to capture those special moments can help ensure that you'll get pictures you'll want to look at time and time again.
Take unforgettable pictures
When choosing a subject, look for things that move you to feel excitement, peace, joy or sadness. Be sure to always have your camera properly loaded with film and ready to use. You may find surprises around every corner!
When photographing family and friends, try to capture them in action rather than in posed situations. Be mindful of lighting conditions, and use a flash when necessary. Strong sunlight makes for good lighting, but cloudy overcast days often provide the best lighting for people pictures. The light is softer and more flattering to faces.*
Get the facts about film
If you're traveling overseas, film selection may be limited and expensive. Regardless of where you're going, decide how much film you'll need before you leave home, and buy double that amount. Stock up on batteries as well.
Exposure to airport X-ray inspection may affect your film (particularly film that is ISO 400 speed and faster), so you may wish to pack your photo gear in a clear plastic bag and ask that your camera and film be hand inspected.
