Warm up this winter with a LaSalle home equity loan
If winter makes you run for cover even when you're indoors, maybe it's time to make a few home improvements that will keep you warmer and cut your energy costs in the coming months.

Heat things up
Shorter days and colder nights means you'll soon be relying heavily on your home's heating system. You should have a Preparing your home for winter doesn't have to be unaffordable.heating professional inspect your furnace each year to ensure the unit is working properly and not leaking harmful carbon monoxide.

To keep as much heat in your home as possible, consider installing new storm windows and doors. State- of-the-art units feature low-emissivity glass that keeps warm air in during winter and moves cool air in during summer.

If you suffer from cold feet every winter, consider installing radiant heating in your floors. The use of radiant floor heat has been increasing about 30 percent a year, due to virtually trouble-free systems (radiant heating doesn't have any moving parts that can break) and inconspicuous distribution of heat (no hissing radiators!).

Studies have shown that a radiant heating system can provide the same comfort as a forced air system at a lower thermostat setting -- thereby cutting from 20 to 40 percent from your heating bills. Consider using this type of system in your basement, garage or even in your front steps to melt snow.

Increase your home's value
Preparing your home for winter doesn't have to be unaffordable. With a home equity loan from LaSalle, you can winterize your home and save money.

Because the financing is secured by your home, rates are typically lower than with unsecured, personal loans. Plus, you may qualify for a deduction on your federal income tax. (Consult your tax advisor.) You could recoup your remodeling costs, and receive some profit, should you decide to sell your home.

Don't delay
